How it all started
I have practiced yoga for many years, starting as a student in Belfast, at first enjoying the physical practice and gradually learning more about the meditative aspects of Yoga. As my interest continued to develop I undertook my Yoga Teacher Training in 2019 with SkyBlue Yoga in Northern Ireland.
My Background
In addition to training as a Yoga Teacher, I initially trained as a Medical Doctor and have continued to work as a doctor in mental health services, completing training as a CAMHS (child and adolescent mental health) Psychiatrist. I continue to work within mental health services alongside my yoga teaching.
My work in mental health gives me a good insight into many of the struggles people attending class may be experiencing and I aim to take a trauma-informed approach to my sessions when appropriate. Through my own practice and by observing the effect of regular practice in others, I am aware of the positive impact movement, mindfulness and deep relaxation can have on improving resilience and managing the complexities of modern living.
My Approach
My YTT is in Hatha Yoga, with an additional module on Yoga for Sport. In my personal practice, I focus on Vinyasa-based and mobility flows and try to incorporate this into my teaching. I have done further training in Mindfulness, Yoga Nidra and Yin Yoga and really enjoy sharing these slower-paced meditative practices.
As someone who partakes in a range of sports, I particularly appreciate the non-competitive nature of Yoga and I try to cultivate a sense of community and shared enjoyment within my classes. My vision is to be able to share my yoga practice with anyone who has an interest in yoga, from beginners to advanced practitioners.
